The new project funded by the European Union, in which NINFEA will also take part together with other European cohorts, will study exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields.

The GOLIAT project, officially launched with a meeting in Barcelona on 6 and 7 July, aims to answer some of the most frequent questions posed by new wireless technologies, with a particular focus on 5G.

This five-year project will monitor exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) and their potential health effects, particularly among young people and workers.

The NINFEA cohort participates in the part dedicated to young people, providing ad hoc questionnaires that will be addressed to mothers and their children in the 10-13 age group.

GOLIAT is coordinated by the Institute for Global Health of Barcelona (ISGlobal) and sees the participation of 21 institutions from 11 European countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom) and the United States.

The project has a total funding of 9.3 million euros, 7 of which was provided by the EU's Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 101057262.
