The concept of exposome is relatively recent, having been coined for the first time in 2005 by epidemiologist Christopher Wild to express "the totality of environmental (non-genetic) exposures to which an individual is exposed from conception onwards".

Since then, the exposome has begun to be investigated, representing an incessant and exciting stimulus in the scientific community both to systematically assess exposures and their overall effect on health and to explore new perspectives for the study and prevention of various diseases.

The working group of CPO Piemonte and of the University of Turin that deals with this specific line of research, strongly interconnected with the life-course epidemiology, has just created a fact sheet that has been published on the web pages of the site of the Italian Environment and Health Network (RIAS).
