The enrollment of patients, operated or in pre-admission visits, within the ERAS Chiropractic project Colorettale and ERAS Hysterectomy, at participating centers that currently amount to 1935.
The ERAS international protocol (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) aims to reduce the perioperative stress of the patient, linked in part to hospitalization and in part to the physiopathological alterations typical of surgery.
The dissemination and evaluation of ERAS in Piedmont is conducted by CPO Piedmont in collaboration with Rete Oncologica Piemonte Valle d'Aosta and SCaDU Servizio Sovrazonale di Epidemiologia (SEPI).
The strengths of ERAS are:
- optimal pain control using a multimodal approach based on epidural or loco-regional anesthesia and NSAID-based analgesic therapy;
- adoption of minimally invasive surgical techniques;
- early post-operative rehabilitation, thanks to the immediate recovery of physiological functions such as mobilization and feeding, with consequent greater satisfaction of the assisted person and reduction of hospitalization times and costs;
- multidisciplinary approach in patient management: the surgeon is no more the only actor along the therapeutic path, sharing decisions together with a team composed of anesthesiologists, nurses, dieticians, dieticians and other professionals.
Next editions of the ERAS training course for ERAS Team will be held on the 2nd of April and on the 11th of June, 2020.
The dissemination and evaluation of ERAS in the Piedmont Region is part of the national project EASY-NET for the evaluation of effectiveness of Audit & Feedback interventions, funded by the Ministry of Health (NET-2016-02364191) and co-funded by 7 Regions: Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Calabria, Sicily.
