Last May the World Health Organization designated the Piedmont Reference Center for Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention as Collaborating Centre for early detection and screening of cancer. During the meeting "Early Detection and Screening Programmes in Mediterranean Countries" (Turin, September 11) this prestigious award has been celebrated.
The aim of the conference was to discuss strategies for cancer control in low and middle income countries and to promote collaboration among national and international organizations active in the field of cancer prevention in the Mediterranean area. It was also an opportunity to present to a wider audience the activities carried out at Piedmont Reference Center for Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention, that will be discussed in the perspective of its new role as World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.
