The eighth edition of the book "The numbers of cancer in Italy" was presented in Rome, fruit of the consolidated collaboration between the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) and the Italian Association of Tumor Registries (AIRTum), to which are added year the AIOM Foundation and the Progress of Health Companies in Italy (PASSI).
This year, 373,300 new cases of cancer are estimated in our country (194,800 men and 178,500 women), with an increase, in absolute terms, of 4,300 diagnoses compared to 2017.
The most common tumor in Italy has become that of the breast: in 2018 52.800 new cases are estimated (51,000 in 2017). Colorectal cancer follows with an estimate of 51,300 new cases (53,000 in 2017, the most diagnosed) and that of the lung (41,500, were 41,800 in 2017).
Nearly 3 million and four hundred thousand citizens live after the discovery of the disease (3,368,569, were 2 million and 244 thousand in 2006), 6% of the entire population: the comforting figure appears to be constantly increasing.
